π Jukkumi Night Market Vibes
OMG, you guys, I'm literally still buzzing from last night's Jukkumi Night at the market π! I met up with my bestie, Minji, and we went to the Hongdae Night Market (, Hongdae Baekseoltang) for some delicious street food and shopping ποΈ. We arrived around 7 pm, and the atmosphere was already electric! The smell of sizzling meat and spices filled the air, and the sound of K-pop music was blasting from every corner πΆ.
As we walked through the stalls, we stumbled upon this amazing jukkumi (, pronounced "juk-koo-mee") stand π. Jukkumi is a type of boiled octopus that's super popular in Korea, and it's literally so good! The vendor was offering samples, and I was like, "Sige, give me one, please!" (, "give me one, please"). It hits different when you try it for the first time, trust me! π€―
After trying the jukkumi, we decided to grab some other snacks to share. We got some hotteok (, pronounced "hot-teok") from a nearby stall, which are essentially sweet pancakes filled with cinnamon sugar and honey π°. And, of course, we had to try some makgeolli (, pronounced "mack-gul-lee") β it's a traditional Korean rice wine that's super refreshing and perfect for hot summer nights πΊ. The best part? It was only 5,000 won (, about $4 USD) for a whole jug! π€
As the night went on, we ended up dancing to K-pop with the other shoppers and vendors πΊ. It was literally the most fun I've had in a long time! If you ever find yourself in Seoul during Jukkumi Night, you have to check it out β it's an experience you won't forget π.
π Fun Fact:
Did you know that jukkumi is actually a popular dish during the winter months in Korea? It's because the boiled octopus is believed to have medicinal properties that help keep you warm and healthy during the cold winter months βοΈ.
π‘ Pro Tip:
When trying jukkumi at a market or street food stall, make sure to dip it in the provided sauce β it's a secret ingredient that takes the flavor to the next level! π€«
